Joss Whedon to Receive Producers Guild's Vanguard Award

While Joss Whedon may still be saddened by Fox's recent cancellation of 'Dollhouse,' it looks like the Producers Guild of America will be providing the writer-producer-director with some sort of compensation.

Variety reports that Whedon will receive the organization's Vanguard Award, which recognizes achievements in new media and technology, at the 21st Annual PGA Awards at the Hollywood Palladium on Jan. 24.

'Dollhouse' Canceled Already: Fox Bulldozes 2009 TV Series

Dollhouse canceledFans of Joss Whedon's cult phenom 'Dollhouse' will be sorely disappointed to learn that Fox has just dropped the sci-fi series, exactly as we predicted earlier this week (we'll hold off on calling bragging rights -- for now).

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the show was pulled after a season of disastrous ratings. It's September premiere, for example, was seen by just 2.0 million people, and earned a shockingly low 1.0 rating in the all-important 18-49 demo. Ratings continued to plummet as the season went on, with 'Dollhouse' earning a series-low 0.8 rating just a couple of weeks ago. So, in other words: Nobody should be all that surprised by today's report.

Joss Whedon Directing 'Glee.' Which Other TV Writers Should, Too?

Joss Whedon Just in case you thought Fox's 'Glee' couldn't get any more geeky-yet-fabulous: Joss Whedon is directing an upcoming episode of the musical high school dramedy.

The 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' and 'Dollhouse' creator, who famously masterminded the all-singing 'Once More, With Feeling' episode of 'Buffy' and last year's online musical hit 'Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog,' confirmed the news (first broken at EW.com) Monday on his own blog. "I'm going to do my best not to gush like a fanboy for eight straight days on set," Whedon wrote.

'Dollhouse' Interview With Eliza Dushku

"The characters and the action and the possibilities and the mystery and the humor -- everything about it -- and, you know, it's kind of sexy too." [Laughs]

She's your best friend, your lover, a hired assassin, a sexy stranger -- this might sound like your fantasies of Eliza Dushku, but it's also the premise of her new Fox show, 'Dollhouse.'

As Echo, an "active" at a secret agency called the Dollhouse, Dushku gets to transform from week to week based on her latest job assignment. From the mind of creator Joss Whedon -- the man behind cult favorites 'Buffy, the Vampire Slayer,' 'Angel,' 'Firefly' and last summer's Internet hit, 'Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog' -- fans can expect a healthy dose of action and plenty of subtext to unravel.

Dushku, who also acts as producer on the show, chatted with AOL TV about playing tough, relaxing at work and her new faceless action figure ... and she also reveals which other star of an old Whedon show will be stopping by and cleared up some dating rumors, all while reminiscing about old times with Arnold. -- By Maggie Furlong

18 Things We Learned at Comic-Con

The buzz on 'Heroes' season 3, Jack Bauer's bathroom breaks and more.

There's no better place to preview TV shows and give back to fans than Comic-Con, and this year, networks embraced the opportunity like never before.

After all the star sightings, exclusive footage, and hard-to-get swag -- we covet the Sci-Fi Channel's purple tote, labeled "BIG FRAKKIN' BAG" -- our heads are so full of great stuff, they just might explode.

And wouldn't that be appropriate for Comic-Con? (Warning: Spoilers ahead!)
