Seth MacFarlane Special Gets New Sponsor: 'Sherlock Holmes'

Seth MacFarlaneThe mystery of who will sponsor Seth MacFarlane's upcoming comedy special has been solved, and the answer turns out to be elementary indeed: Sherlock Holmes.

According to an announcement by Fox during Saturday's World Series pregame show, the 'Family Guy Presents: Seth & Alex's Almost Live Comedy Show' special, which originally had been slated to be sponsored by Microsoft, will instead be backed by Warner Bros. as part of their promotional push for the upcoming Robert Downey, Jr. blockbuster 'Sherlock Holmes'.

Microsoft Pulls Out of 'Family Guy' Special Over Incest and Holocaust Jokes

Family GuyAs we wrote almost two weeks ago, computer giant Microsoft, Fox and Seth MacFarlane were all set to team up for 'Family Guy Presents: Seth and Alex's Almost Live Comedy Show.' The deal was simple: Microsoft plunked down cash in exchange for Seth MacFarlane making some plugs during the show without breaking away to actual commercials.

Seemed like a win-win situation, right? But Variety is reporting that this sync deal is no longer. The reason? Microsoft is a bit weary of 'Family Guy's' off-the-cuff, risqué brand of humor.

Fox, Seth MacFarlane and Microsoft Team Up for Variety Special

Seth MacFarlaneIt seems like just yesterday that Fox rescued Seth MacFarlane's 'Family Guy' from cancellation (it was, in fact, 2002). Now, the network is ready to put him in front of the camera.

Variety is reporting that Fox will air a variety special on November 8 at 8:30PM called 'Family Guy Presents: Seth and Alex's Almost Live Comedy Show.' The show will feature Seth MacFarlane and 'Family Guy' actor Alex Borstein, who provides Lois' whiny voice of reason each week on the show.

Fox Decides Not to Air 'Family Guy' Abortion Episode

Family GuyFox says it will not air an upcoming 'Family Guy' episode that deals with abortion, the Live Feed reports.

The network announced its decision in a statement released earlier this afternoon, adding that Fox executives "fully support the producers' right to make the episode and distribute it in whatever way they want."

Series creator Seth MacFarlane appeared ready for the decision when he spoke during 'Family Guy''s Comic-Con panel discussion on Saturday. "20th Century Fox, as always, allowed us to produce the episode and then said, 'You know what? We're scared to ******* death of this,'" he said, according to the Live Feed.

TV on DVD: Week of June 16

Here's a taste of what's coming out on DVD this week:

'Family Guy' (Volume 7)

What It Includes: This three-disc set contains the last four episodes from season 6 and the first nine from season 7. Plus, each episode has its own commentary and deleted scenes and there's a Comic Con-related featurette.

Why You Should Check It Out: The twice canceled cult fave built so much momentum on DVD, it returned to TV in 2005. So watching it straight out of the box is like kicking it old school. But since it was just renewed through 2012, you don't have to worry about Stewie and Co. going anywhere anytime soon.

2009 Fox Fall TV Premiere Dates

HouseFox is planning to enter the upcoming fall TV season a bit later this year.

Today, the network announced premiere dates for its biggest new and returning series, including 'House,' 'Fringe' and a brand new season of 'So You Think You Can Dance,' set to air beginning Sat., Sept. 12. This is the first time in years where Fox will debut shows closer to TV's official premiere week (beginning Sept. 21), according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Check out the full list of premiere dates after the jump.
