Brian Austin Green Returning to 'Smallville'

Eat your heart out, Iron Man, because it looks like Metallo is coming back to town.

According to the Ausiello Files, Brian Austin Green will be returning to 'Smallville' to reprise the role of supervillain Metallo, a cyborg who is powered by an artificial Kryptonite heart. When we last saw the character, who made his debut during this season's Sept. 25 premiere, he was seemingly killed when his heart was accidentally removed from his chest. But like most comic book characters, it appears that he has a superior health plan.

If the artificial heart angle seems familiar to fans of the blockbuster Marvel Comics film franchise 'Iron Man', it should be noted that this evil DC Comics take on the idea predates Iron Man's inception by several years. The comic book version of Metallo is also well known for his returns from beyond the grave and has been known to associate with Toyman, who in the world of 'Smallville' was tasked earlier this season with reviving the villain.

All this should come as no surprise for Green, who, though best known for his role on 'Beverly Hills, 90210', is no stranger to comic book characters, having previously appeared on 'Sabrina the Teenage Witch' and as the voice of Human Torch in an animated 'Fantastic Four' series.

Green and Metallo are scheduled to make their dramatic return in episode 18, which will air sometime this spring. Exact dates and times are still up in the air for 'Smallville', which goes on its holiday hiatus following this week's episode; the second half of the season, which kicks off with the two-hour movie 'Smallville: Absolute Justice', was recently bumped from Jan. 29 back to Feb. 5.
