Minnie Driver to Guest on 'Modern Family'

Minnie Driver Modern FamilyKeep those guest spots coming: Minnie Driver is set to appear on ABC's 'Modern Family' this January, Entertainment Weekly confirms. The Oscar nominee will play a former co-worker of Claire (Julie Bowen), who comes back into their lives, presumably to wreak a bit of havoc.

Driver's acting career has slowed down a bit in recent years. Most recently, she co-starred in the FX drama 'The Riches,' for which she earned an Emmy nomination in 2007. Fans of 'Will & Grace' will also remember Driver as Lorraine Finster, the cafeteria worker who had an affair with Stan.

In 2008, Driver gave birth to her first son, Henry Story Driver.

As 'Modern Family's Ty Burrell told us, the show has a handful of guest spots lined up over the next couple of weeks, including Edward Norton and Elizabeth Banks on the November 18 episode, titled 'Great Expectations.' Already, Shelley Long has appeared, playing Jay Pritchett's (Ed O'Neill) ex-wife DeDe Pritchett, and Benjamin Bratt is scheduled to appear as Gloria Delgado-Pritchett's (Sofia Vergara) ex-husband. The only thing we know about Bratt's character is he's reportedly great with a sword (we'll let you use your imaginations for that one).

It's a bit unprecedented for such a new show to have so many guest stars; even '30 Rock' waited until it got off the ground. But 'Modern Family' doesn't seem to be holding back. A cursory glance would suggest that it's trying to use star power to get a following. But watching the show, it's easy to see that it might be the other way around. The show's simple premise makes it easy for auxiliary characters to pop in. So, in other words: keep the guest stars coming.
