Lou Dobbs knows what's troubling the nation, and to prove it he's joined the unemployment line -- effective immediately. Emigrating from his anchor home of more than 30 years, Dobbs has announced his departure from CNN in light of his controversial views on, amongst other things, illegal immigration and President Barack Obama's birthplace. In a statement reported by the New York Times, Dobbs cites the political climate as part of the reason for his resignation: "Over the past six months, it's become increasingly clear that strong winds of change have begun buffeting this country and affecting all of us, and some leaders in media, politics and business have been urging me to go beyond the role here at CNN and to engage in constructive problem solving as well as to contribute positively to the great understanding of the issues of our day."
This is the second time Dobbs has resigned from CNN. He previously resigned in 1999 after a clash with then-CNN president Rick Kaplan to start up Space.com, a website concerned with, as one might expect, the final frontier.
But what's Dobbs' big rush this time around? What could possibly be on his agenda that would warrant leaving his employers in the lurch?
There is early speculation that he'll leave his post as anchor of 'Lou Dobbs Tonight' and find his way to Fox News, but those rumors have not been confirmed. So if that's not the case, let's explore some other possibilities.
• He might be gearing up for a political career, after noting what he recognizes as a "lack of true representation." Is the nation ready for Dobbs 2012?
• A book deal? He could be penning a CNN tell-all.
• Or perhaps he'd go back to his Web-savvy roots and start a new social network: MyDobbsSpace.com?
Whichever direction he chooses, he's hardly alone in making such a sudden drastic career change. Dobbs is in good company with some other journalists who decided to jump ship this year from their longtime employers -- although at least they gave two weeks' notice.
• After 28 years on '20/20,' John Stossel left ABC to accept a multiyear contract hosting Fox News Channel and Fox Business Network
• Charles Gibson announced his retirement after spending 34 years of his career at ABC News, making this the last year he will be anchoring 'World News'
• Diane Sawyer is slated to leave her post at 'Good Morning America' to replace Gibson
• Current '20/20' anchor Elizabeth Vargas is rumored to be Sawyer's replacement on 'Good Morning America'
Got all that straight? As to where Dobbs will end up, that's one bit of news he's not currently sharing.

I don't agree with him about everything, but I do agree with him on the immigration issue - we are giving our country away! The day days of "give us your tired, your poor..." - those days are gone forever. With 10% unemployment we cannot allow illegals to come here and take all the jobs. And it's not just "the jobs no one else will do," manufacturers here in the South have been bringing in illegals for years, firing everyone across the board and hiring back in @ $5/hour, no benefits. (Specifically, the giant carpet industry in North Georgia.) These are jobs people used to get paid $15/hour with benefits. They used to come, save their money and send or take it back home, but now they come and bring their wives and children with them, using vast resources in healthcare and education. The new Volkswagon plant in Chattanooga? On Friday afternoons when paychecks are handed out, the recipients are 90% non-English speaking. Those jobs were promised to locals, and the VW boss even made a bad joke about how it reminded him of the Germans using slave labor (Jews) during WWII, which he tried to take back.

As a longtime CNN viewer and Republican who always has respected and trusted CNN as a TRUE news network one based on facts rather than opinions Lou Dobbs has continued to move CNN away from that reputation with his over the top opinions. I believe he is becoming another member of the media who is discovering there is much much more money to be made by being opinionated in ways that promote fear and hate because there are some viewers that believe that message and who never fact check from reputable sources. Again money rules as I believe we will watch Lou try to compete for some of the Rush, Beck spotlight for the big dollars...rather than the honest living he made at CNN.

Wow, I love Lou Dobbs. He is the only reason to ever turn to CNN. He would be welcome in my Fox line-up, the only legitimate balanced news network. FNC has it all, but Lou...OH,YEAH!

NEWS IN THE US IS ABOUT ENTERTAINMENT NOW. IT WAS TOTALLY BIASED ANYWAY. IT IS A SHAME THAT YOU MUST LOOK OUTSIDE THE US FOR BITS AND PIECES OF TRUTH. GLENN BECK AND RUSH HAVE CONSISTENTLY CONTRADICTED THEMSELVES. THEY ARE ALL ABOUT ENTERTAINMENT AND SHOCK VALUE, NOT TRUTH. THE TRUTH WITH THESE GUYS IS ABOUT SPINNING WHATEVER, HOWEVER, WHERE EVER. LOU DOBBS IS WELL........ REALLY NOT WORTH MENTIONING.

As for Rush and Glenn........DRUG ADDICTS AND ALCOHOLICS DO MAKE GREAT COMMENTATORS. And if you think either one of them is clean then you have not heard either one of them speak. Lou Dobbs...snore.

What about the drug addict we have as president of the United States now? Obama, the community organizer! Good for Lou Dobbs. Now CNN will be 100% the liberal network news outlet we always knew it was.

CNN is a joke. Please give us one network/cable network that does not feel the necessity to slant the news to flatter the administration or cater to the nuts on the left and right. CNN used to be a news network. Now it simly lame x 10. The efforts by the left to have Dobb's fired and to impose their facism is precisely the same complaint they had with the prior administration. This is the "change" they were talking about. The attemts to silence dissenting opinion has now become ther trademark of the "progressives". CNN and the usual suspects (Southern Poverty Law Ctr, Acorn,La Raza, etc.) who were threatened by Dobb's free speach, are showing us the future as they would like to impose it on all of us.
