Michael Trucco's days of galaxy drifting are definitely over. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 'Battlestar Galactica' alum has signed on for USA's 'Facing Kate,' a pilot that follows a lawyer named Kate (Sarah Shahi) who leaves her job for a new career as a mediator.Trucco will play Kate's ex-husband, who also happens to be a lawyer. The show's premise stems on the death of Kate's dad, another lawyer, which sends her into a need for a new career of sorts.
Also signed on is Virginia Williams ('How I Met Your Mother') as an obsessive stepmother.
Over the years, Trucco has landed bit parts in some successful shows such as 'One Tree Hill,' 'CSI: Miami' and 'The Big Bang Theory.' But his work on 'Battlestar' clearly woke casting directors up -- should 'Kate' get the green light, this would be his biggest role to date.
Much like 'The Wire,' 'Battlestar Galactica' was never a ratings juggernaut, but constant critical praise and a devout following has done wonders for the cast's careers. A small sampling of recent 'BSG' alum casting news:
• Jamie Bamber ("Lee Adama") - now a cast member on 'Law & Order: UK'
• Katee Sackhoff ("Starbuck") - will be featured on '24' this upcoming season
• Mary McDonnell ("Pres. Laura Roslin") - recently appeared in two episodes of 'The Closer'
In late October, Trucco and the 'Galactica' gang just released 'Battlestar Galactica: The Plan,' a straight to DVD/Blu-ray feature that is set after the fall of the Twelve Colonies. It's set to air in on Syfy in 2010.
