After eight years on the USA Network, the production company behind 'Monk' has found a new home: ABC.According to Variety, Mandeville honchos Todd Lieberman and David Hoberman , whose signature series 'Monk' comes to an end next month, has inked a deal with ABC to provide pilots for five new shows including a grittier detective drama about homicide cops in Motown titled '1-8-7 Detroit'.
It's not all mystery and crime, however; among the other shows in production is the workplace comedy 'Kegs', which takes place in a brewery and 'Tarrytown', a drama about a single mom who starts a new life when she inherits a house in Texas.
Also on the slate is 'Dorchester Heights', which follows the lives of a group of friends in South Boston who harbor a tangled web of secrets; the series is being written by 'Las Vegas' scribe Nikki Toscano.
And Joy Gregory, whose resume includes cult faves 'Jericho' and 'Joan of Arcadia', is developing an untitled series about a middle-aged man who experiences head trauma and wakes up believing he is 20 again.
The array of styles and genres is part of a deliberate attempt from the company of 'Monk' to broaden their outreach. "Our TV projects have a mix of TV and film writers, and they're comedies and dramas in all sorts of styles, and reflect the diversity we always strive for," Hoberman said.
Whether or not any of their shows can recapture the magic that made 'Monk' so popular for eight seasons, however, remains to be seen.
