Jonathan Jackson and Anthony Geary on Lucky's Return and a Potential Spencer Family Reunion

Jonathan Jackson and Anthony GearyAfter a 10-year absence, Jonathan Jackson has reclaimed the role of Lucky Spencer, son of legendary 'General Hospital' duo Luke (Anthony Geary) and Laura (Genie Francis).

Jackson -- who won three Daytime Emmys for his performance -- originated the role in 1993, and remained on the show for nearly six years before leaving to pursue other interests (among them roles in 'Tuck Everlasting,' 'Insomnia' and TV's 'Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles').

AOL TV recently spoke with Jackson and Geary about Lucky's return, the chances of a Lucky-Liz reunion and whether Laura will return to Port Charles as well.

Jonathan, how long did it take you to get back into the role?
Jackson: It was immediate, really. It's hard to describe why. Daytime's a unique medium. I worked for almost six years on 'General Hospital.' Even after ten years, it's like a second skin. The chemistry and friendship that Tony and I have is there.

Lucky became a cop while you were away. What are your thoughts on that?
Jackson: I think my instincts towards him being a detective [include] ambiguity. Growing up as Luke's son, and given Luke's ties to the mob, Lucky's seen the world from both sides. I don't think that Lucky sees it as black and white. There are shades of gray.

Geary: Jonathan has the ability to play two things at once. Not a lot of actors are able to do that. Conflict is what acting thrives on. If you have inner-conflict, you've got a very interesting and rich character going on. What you're seeing in Lucky [now] is the ambiguity; a man trying to reconcile differences.

Jonathan Jackson and Rebecca HerbstElizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) is now engaged to Lucky, but she still has feelings for Nikolas (Tyler Christopher). How will the on-screen chemistry you share with Herbst affect this scenario?
Jackson: Dynamics do shift. I've come back and jumped onto a moving train. What Becky and I originally established with our love story changes the hue of what's happening now. Her settling to be with Lucky doesn't fly with the foundation and the chemistry that Becky and I have. I completely agree with you. It'll be fascinating to see it subtly evolve from where we are now.

Rachel Ames, Denise Alexander, Jane Elliot and Jackie Zeman all returned for Lucky and Elizabeth's engagement party. Do you think that bringing back more veterans would benefit the show?
Geary: Absolutely. The gift that daytime gives the audience, which no other medium can do, is watching characters live their lives in real time. You become involved in the characters' histories. Family units are what the whole medium is based on. We've gotten away from those. It's a gift when you bring back original characters. It's important. I'd like to see more of that.

Genie Francis has said that she would love to return to 'General Hospital' -- and so has the show. Will it happen?

Geary: I think the chances of it happening are greater now that Jonathan's back. I've been told by the writers and producers that the Spencer group is going to re-emerge as a more important part of the show. If that's true, we certainly need to have [Laura]. Audiences still love Genie, and they love that character. She's my acting soul mate.
