New TV DVDs for Nov. 3: 'Zorro,' 'Mission: Impossible,' 'The Shield' & More

Zorro on DVDOver the past weekend, Americans across the country were called upon to roll back their clocks for daylight savings time. But why stop at just an hour, when you can roll back the clock to a whole different decade by curling up with your favorite show of yesteryear on DVD?

That's right, it's time for a new week of classic television DVDs hot off the press. Because when the gray days of winter loom, why not just go straight to black and white?

That seems to be Disney's theory anyway, as they've released not just one, but two full seasons of 'Zorro' under the titles 'Walt Disney Treasures: Zorro -- The Complete First Season' and 'Walt Disney Treasures: Zorro -- The Complete Second Season'. It's not just a TV show, folks: it's a treasure.

Zorro isn't the only double feature on this week's bill: 'Mission: Impossible' offers dual releases as well, with 'The Final TV Season' allowing them to finally package the 'Complete Series'. Looks like "impossible" turned out to be just a little pessimistic.

Sci-fi fans can rejoice, because one of the lost epics in 'Doctor Who' history has finally been gathered and released. 'Doctor Who -- The War Games' has three discs of hot Time Lord action for the discerning viewer. And as a bonus, the folks at BBC have also released 'Doctor Who: The Black Guardian Trilogy' to boot.

Don't let the title fool you -- 'The Rockford Files Movie Collection Vol. 1' is still a television release. Not that 'The Rockford Files' wouldn't have made a cool movie, but it was just fine as a TV show, thank you very much.

Fraggle Rock on DVDIf hardboiled detectives and time traveling doctors aren't your bag, may we suggest some muppets as a change of pace? 'Fraggle Rock: The Complete Final Season' is just the tip of the 'Fraggle Rock' iceberg: you can also pick up the 'Complete Series Collection' or 'A Merry Fraggle Holiday' as well.

Hide the fraggles, because 'The Shield: Complete Series' also hits shelves this week, collecting all seven season of 'The Shield' in one gritty and groundbreaking box set.

Though Michael J. Fox is still best known for his earlier work on 'Family Ties', we have a soft spot for his the more mature series 'Spin City', meaning we're especially happy to see a new presentation this week -- 'Spin City: Season Three'.

Just in time for the holidays, Disney has put out the appropriately titled box set 'Disney Holiday High School Musical 3-Pack' which, as you might expect, collects all three 'High School Musical' specials into one big package for the dsicerning pre-teen viewer.

Finally, Disney's not the only wily coroporation aware of the calendar: Shout! Factory is also looking to key in on the season of giving by presenting 'Merry Sitcom! Christmas Classics From TV's Golden Age', which gathers holiday-themed episodes from several vintage shows including 'Bewitched', 'McHale's Navy' and 'The Flying Nun'. Now that truly sounds like a Happy Holiday.
