Cheryl Hines Defends Jesus Joke in 'Curb Your Enthusiasm'

Curb your criticisms – or at least that's what 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' star Cheryl Hines says about the latest questions about the show's edgy humor.

"I haven't talked to him about it, but I am sure [he would say] they probably shouldn't watch the show if it is going to offend [them]," Hines told Moviefone at Thursday's Ante Up for Africa event outside L.A., to benefit Darfur charities. "Because Larry [David] has skewered all kinds of subjects and himself. That's the nature of the show."

In last Sunday's episode of the famously provocative 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' on HBO, David urinates on a picture of Jesus, and a woman believes the picture is crying. It outraged the Catholic League, as their president press-released the episode, saying it unfairly picked on Catholics.

"I understand everybody has their beliefs, and they want to stand up for what they believe in," Hines says. "It's a free world. You can do whatever you want. But you don't have to tune in if you don't like it."

Another running humor line in this season's show?

A character, Loretta Black, played by Vivica A. Fox, having cancer and needing help from David.
