'Gilmore Girls' Creator Bringing New Mother-Daughter Series to HBO

Gilmore GirlsLorelai and Rory have ridden off into the TV sunset, but 'Gilmore Girls' creator Amy Sherman-Palladino is bringing another mother-daughter series to the tube.

Sherman-Palladino will write and produce a still-untitled HBO drama about three writer sisters (who live in the same building) and their "literary lioness" mother who pays more attention to their hapless brother.

"It's a story of love, hate, family -- and finding the perfect opening line," Sherman-Palladino says, suggesting that fans can expect more of the witty, rapid-fire dialogue that was a trademark of 'Gilmore Girls.'

The new series is Sherman-Palladino's first gig for a cable network and her first series since her post-'GG' effort, 2008's Fox comedy 'The Return of Jezebel James,' lasted less than a season.

Sadly for 'GG' fans, the HBO drama, which will become the latest in a string of TV series – like 'The Closer,' '30 Rock,' 'Saving Grace', 'Damages,' 'The Good Wife,' etc. -- offering up juicy roles for actresses, comes just a tad too late to snag 'Gilmore Girls' star Lauren Graham. Graham just signed a deal to take over Maura Tierney's role on NBC's midseason drama 'Parenthood.' We do hear 'GG' star Alexis Bledel is available, though ...

Meanwhile, Sherman-Palladino, who was a writer/producer on 'Roseanne' and 'Veronica's Closet,' is also attached to write and direct the big-screen flick 'The Late Bloomer's Revolution,' an adaptation of Amy Cohen's memoir about how she and her father both entered the dating world after her mother's death. Sarah Jessica Parker is co-producing and will also star in the film.
