On the heels of yesterday's news that a 'Dallas' reboot is in the works, Variety confirms that CBS is ordering a pilot of 'Hawaii Five-O,' the popular '70s cop series. This announcement marks yet another in the network trend of reverting back to old franchises instead of making any attempt to break new ground.
But there's a ray of sunshine with this news, in that CBS has secured successful writers in Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, of the recent J.J. Abrams 'Star Trek' adaptation and Fox's 'Fringe.' 'CSI: NY' executive producer Peter Lenkov will also work on the pilot and co-executive produce with Kurtzman and Orci.
This isn't the first time the franchise has been resurrected. In 1996, everyone's favorite bag of fun Gary Busey starred in a one-hour pilot that never aired.
Regardless of how they approach the script, 'Hawaii Five-O' would join a packed lineup of CBS cop dramas -- none of which yet take place in Hawaii. Filling that noticeable void of island-themed crimes could be something viewers crave ... or at least it could satiate the appetite for a sweet catchphrase, "Book em, Danno."
Want to remember the originals? SlashControl has six 'Hawaii Five-O' episodes from season 1 for free viewing.
Who would you like to see cast in the new 'Hawaii Five-O'? Gary Busey?

Don Stroud, a great veteran Hawaii-born actor who acted in Mike Hammer, Dragnet, Jake and the Fatman, Matt Houston, CHiPS and other crime dramas, should get a part. He still looks tough and he is so versatile he could play any role. Stroud would bring genuine island flavor to the new Hawaii Five-0.

Good choice!! Besides the fact that he was born in Hawaii, appeared in three episodes of Hawaii 5-O; and starred in that great movie -- Frogtown 11 -- and as long as he doesn't have that extra 80 pounds, he should be good. Now, if they can only get Pee Wee Herman for "Dano"...
