Kate Winslet Eyes 'Mildred Pierce' Miniseries & More TV News

Kate Winslet Mildred PierceOscar winner Kate Winslet is reportedly attached to a miniseries adaptation of 'Mildred Pierce,' based on James M. Cain's novel. Todd Haynes ('Far From Heaven'; 'I'm Not There') will write and direct the project -- about a housewife whose foray into the restaurant business goes tragically wrong -- which may ultimately be picked up by HBO. And with that, next year's Emmy race is officially over. [Variety]

Reno 911! canceledComedy Central has pulled the plug on 'Reno 911!' Co-star Thomas Lennon broke the news yesterday via Twitter, stating "'Reno 911!' was cancelled at 1:30 pm today ... Won't be wearing the shorts again." 'Reno 911!' ends after six seasons. [Hollywood Reporter]


Saving Grace canceledTNT's 'Saving Grace' will end in 2010. Fox TV Studios reportedly passed on a full fourth season due to financial reasons. Instead, TNT will add three additional episodes to the six that were scheduled for this winter, and air them all together sometime next summer. [Hollywood Reporter]

Topher Grace St. Elmo's FireFresh off the heels of NBC's 'Parenthood,' ABC has picked up a television adaptation of the 1985 movie 'St. Elmo's Fire,' which starred Emilio Estevez, Rob Lowe and Demi Moore, among others. Joel Schumacher and Topher Grace will co-executive producer the project, about a group of Georgetown University graduates who segue into adulthood. Casting decisions have yet to be announced. Sonic Youth Gossip GirlMusical group Sonic Youth has booked an upcoming episode of 'Gossip Girl.' The band will reportedly perform an acoustic version of 'Starpower' during the show's fifth episode, featuring an undisclosed storyline revolving around Rufus and Lily. Looks like they've finally picked a wedding song. [EW.com]

Cartoon Network is adding two new series to its lineup. The network recently picked up 'Regular Show,' about "two bored groundskeepers," and the teenage robot series 'Horrorbots,' in addition to more episodes of 'The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack.' [Hollywood Reporter]
