Oscar winner Kate Winslet is reportedly attached to a miniseries adaptation of 'Mildred Pierce,' based on James M. Cain's novel. Todd Haynes ('Far From Heaven'; 'I'm Not There') will write and direct the project -- about a housewife whose foray into the restaurant business goes tragically wrong -- which may ultimately be picked up by HBO. Fresh off the heels of NBC's 'Parenthood,' ABC has picked up a television adaptation of the 1985 movie 'St. Elmo's Fire,' which starred Emilio Estevez, Rob Lowe and Demi Moore, among others. Joel Schumacher and Topher Grace will co-executive producer the project, about a group of Georgetown University graduates who segue into adulthood. Casting decisions have yet to be announced.
