Karla and Vitolio spoke to reporters on Monday. Here are a few highlights ...
Vitolio, on the quickstep as kiss of death:
When I drew the quickstep out of the hat, I was like, oh my God, this is going to be a disaster ... We were rehearsing every single minute we had and I think we put it together very well. We changed it from the kiss of death to the kiss of joy, I think.
Karla, on getting the quickstep:
When we opened up that card and it was quickstep, I think I was already practicing my solo [laughs], especially when everyone else around us had a genre that was in their comfort zone. I felt almost defeated ... The real blessing was having Jean Marc [Généreux] as a choreographer because they can really make or break your experience. He was very involved and invested in us, and he knew that it would be a difficult task ... I think he gave us a great routine, choreographically, to make it easier to learn the style.

Vitolio, on how dance saved his life:
I saw a Michael Jackson video, at that point I was still in an orphanage [in Haiti]. After I left the orphanage, dance was a way for me to survive in the street ... to make some money in the street, take care of my grandmother, take care of myself at the same time.
Karla, on performing solos:
I definitely learned after each time doing it, you have to really construct it well and make sure that there's a beginning, middle and end to your 30 seconds, because it's not really a lot of time to tell a story plus show technique plus give a good performance quality and show your personality.
Vitolio, on learning of Michael Jackson's death:
I couldn't stop crying, that really affected me hard ... It was tough [to go on stage] but it also kind of put some inspiration into me.
