Say it isn't so, Paul F. Tompkins! The nattily-attired funny guy, who became host of the revamped 'Best Week Ever' last fall -- they even added 'With Paul F. Tompkins' to the title of the show -- is rumored to be out of a job after June 12, as New York mag's Vulture blog reports that VH1 is pulling the plug on the weekly pop culture commentary series.
But VH1's official word to AOL TV: "'Best Week Ever' has gone on its scheduled production hiatus and will return in January 2010. Its companion piece 'Best Day Ever' which spoofs that day's pop culture news will return this fall with Paul F. Tompkins."
Tompkins' fiancé, actress Janie Haddad, broke the news on her vlog on Friday that Tompkins and 'BWE' staffers had expected they would just go on summer hiatus as usual (as confirmed in a recent interview). But via Twitter on Friday, Tompkins added, "Honestly, no plan has been announced other than keeping us off til 2010. I have no idea what they're thinking ... they'll bring it back in 2010, but staff (including me) can't go that long without work. Maybe new cast?"
As far as VH1's official statement, Tompkins said on Twitter Tuesday afternoon, "I have not been approached about 'Best Day Ever.'" -- By Kim Potts

I looooved Best Week Ever until they changed it to only Paul F. TOmpkins and he sucked compared to how it was, so i stopped watching.

Too bad VH1 is pulling the plug on the only show they have that's worth watching.... Probably going to replace it with some BS reality show about some washed up celebrity and their family that no one cares about.

Nooo! This was a hilarious peek at the week's events that always managed to leave me in stitches. The little skits they came up with were so clever. All the actual funny shows are getting cancelled. ~_~

I don't know what to say, cuz the old version with all the different people was funny as hell, but this shit with just one guy isn't all that. don't cancel it but refo it like it was done b4 wit different people commenting

I used to love best week evr until it changed to Paul as main host.Don't get me wrong, I like him but it was great having so many people weigh in on different subjects. I can't even watch anymore

i agree with CocoaCake about Best Week Ever being better with the multiple people. when it was just Paul F. Tompkins, it wasn't funny anymore. he barely had any funny comments. it was people like Frangela that were my favorite

I think Paul F. is OUTSTANDING - He always makes me laugh.
SO many many funny moments. I am really sorry to see it stop- I swear I depended on this show to keep on top of the things I might have missed.

I LOVE PAUL F. TOMPKINS. I think maybe he is a little TOO cerebral for the general public...you have to be somewhat educated to "GET" him. Too bad it's over. I was just telling someone how funny the show is, and then I have to read this sad news. Good Luck to Paul wherever he lands.
