Who's Not in the Running for an Emmy Nomination?

Guess 'Grey's Anatomy' star Katherine Heigl thinks she deserved an Emmy nomination this season (more on that below). But somehow, fellow former winner Terry O'Quinn of 'Lost' doesn't? Huh?!

Gold Derby posted a link to the official 2009 Emmy nomination submissions, and as usual, there were some head-scratching omissions and blatant category frauds:

BEST ACTOR, DRAMA
Where's ... Patrick Dempsey for 'Grey's Anatomy' (moved to supporting, despite having a strong storyline this year); Wentworth Miller for 'Prison Break' (sure, he doesn't have a chance of making the short list, but it is the show's final season)
Really? Chace Crawford and Ed Westwick for 'Gossip Girl' (Westwick in particular did great work but, come on, they both belong in supporting)

BEST ACTRESS, DRAMA
Where's ... Ginnifer Goodwin and Chloe Sevigny for 'Big Love' (inexplicably in supporting ... competing against Amanda Seyfried, which is a bit ridiculous!); Connie Britton for 'Friday Night Lights' (also in supporting, though if this helps her chances, I'm all for it)
Really? Angela Bassett for 'ER' (love her, but she should be in supporting)

BEST ACTRESS, COMEDY
Where's ... Sarah Chalke for 'Scrubs' (in supporting, while co-star Judy Reyes is in lead. Huh?)

BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR, DRAMA
Katherine Heigl, Terry O'QuinnWhere's ... O'Quinn (he allegedly said winning once is enough); Jimmy Smits for 'Dexter' (in the guest star category, though he appeared in every episode this season); other 'Mad Men' besides Vincent Kartheiser and John Slattery (e.g. Bryan Batt, Rich Sommer, Michael Gladis)

SUPPORTING ACTRESS, DRAMA
Where's ... Robin Tunney for 'The Mentalist'; Summer Glau for 'Terminator'
Really? Rose Byrne for 'Damages' (nobody wants to compete against Glenn Close, but she is absolutely a lead)
Back in the running ... Heigl

BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR, COMEDY
Where's ... Jason Segel for 'How I Met Your Mother' (all his co-stars were submitted); Adam Baldwin for 'Chuck' (ditto)

OTHER
Where's ... Anthony Edwards as guest drama actor for 'ER' (even though the other original cast members got submitted)
Where's ... Anne Hathaway as guest comedy actress for 'Saturday Night Live' (Only Tina Fey and Justin Timberlake made that category for 'SNL')
Really? Jessica Lange as best actress in a miniseries or movie for 'Grey Gardens' (competing against the film's true lead, Drew Barrymore)

Note: Before you write a strongly-worded letter to the networks, just know that actors themselves are responsible for submitting their work to the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. Last year, Heigl stirred up more off-screen 'Grey's' drama when she released a statement saying she hadn't been "given the material this season to warrant a nomination," seemingly dissing show runner Shonda Rhimes and the writers. And Gold Derby loves telling the story about how Tim Allen forgot to submit himself one year, causing a big commotion, then had the University of Southern California marching band hand-delivered his entry the next year. -- By Kelly Woo

So who do you think is missing from the submissions? Who's in the wrong category? And who shouldn't have bothered at all??
