Oh, cliffhanger, you rear your ugly head once again. On tonight's seventh season finale of '24,' we saw:
• Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) save his daughter Kim (Elisha Cuthbert) again -- though she actually sorta saved him right back this time
• Jack finally get the chance to confront former BFF Tony Almeida (Carlos Bernard) about his evildoing this season
• A brief, but still touching moment of affection between Jack and Girl Jack, aka FBI agent Renee (Annie Wersching)
• First Brat Olivia get her comeuppance for all her attempts to run the show behind her mother's back
• Chloe (Mary Lynn Rajskub) and her FBI counterpart, Janice (Janeane Garofalo), bid each other an appropriately awkward adieu
• Jack make peace with all his in-the-line-of-duty actions
(Plus: read a great finale recap by Jonathan at TV Squad)
What we didn't see, and what we'll now have to wait eight months, until the show's Jan. 17, 2010 eighth-season premiere to find out:
• Does Jack Bauer live or die?!
Though Jack had refused a risky, painful stem cell treatment that involved Kim to potentially save his life after he was infected with that deadly bioweapon, Baby Bauer stepped in at the end – the very end, literally the finale's final moments – and made the decision to have the doctor administer the treatment to her dad. And ... fade to ticking clock.
And about '24' season 8, we know it's set in New York City, with a revamped CTU, the return of Chloe, Kim, Renee and President Allison Taylor (Cherry Jones), and ... that's it. Does Jack live? If he does, is he at full Jack capacity? Or – gulp – is it possible that '24' could go on sans Jack? Maybe Day 8 is some sort of prequel season?
So, what did you think about the finale? Sound off in the comments!

Jack IS the show. no prequel or sequels with other agents please. Unfortunately once you have a hero you can't switch him out. As far as Renee being the lead, NO! She's ok and all but really? I do wish Tony didn't go to the darkside though because it would've been great with him working with Jack again or even if it came down to absolutely no Jack, Tony is about the only one I could've seen taking that role. I just think we're losing to many of the loved characters, whether to death or them being bad guys now.

I thought the finale really sucked ass. You sit there all season and they wrap it up like this? WTF? They make you sit there while Tony beats his meat over his dead wife, and leave you hanging on Jack, alive or dead? You must be shi*en me! FOX better get themselves unscrewed or I'm not gonna watch it anymore.

We haven't got season seven down under yet, he better live though, how the hell are they going to do season if he doesn't?
I think we would all agree the world would be much better off with a season 8 than with out
settled then...
