What to Watch May 18-24

This week on TV: Can Jack Bauer save the day ... again? Plus, the finales of 'American Idol,' 'Southland' and more.

24MONDAY, MAY 18
'24' (8PM, Fox) 7th season finale
It all comes down to this, the emotional, action-packed final two hours of the season, in which Jack Bauer must: Help his former best friend/now enemy Tony escape from federal custody; save his imperiled daughter Kim (again!); suffer through pain and possible dementia as he deals with his impending death from the bio weapon. Along the way, First Brat Olivia may finally get her comeuppance in a showdown with Ethan, Renee gets to display her "Girl Jack" skills again and, maybe, Jack will finally try that treatment for his infection? Or will Jack Bauer really die, meaning all future seasons of '24' will have to be prequels?

'Glee' (9PM, Fox) series premiere
Think 'Fame' meets 'Election,' with an awesome Journey soundtrack. The latest from 'Nip/Tuck' creator Ryan Murphy follows the McKinley High glee club, as they try to prove they're not misfits to a school that only cares about its football team and award-winning cheerleaders (the "Cheer-ios"). GleeThe sweet and funny musical dramedy is all the more endearing thanks to a great cast that includes Jane Lynch as cheer coach Sue, Broadway star Matthew Morrison as earnest glee club advisor Will Schuester and newcomers Lea Michele and Cory Monteith as glee club stars Rachel and Finn.

'American Idol' – Lambert vs. Allen (8PM, Fox)
'Dancing With the Stars' – 8th season finale (9PM, ABC)
'90210' – 1st season finale (9PM, The CW)
'The Mentalist' – 1st season finale (9PM, CBS)
'Rescue Me' – Tommy and Janet get reacquainted. Again (10PM, FX)


WEDNESDAY, MAY 20
'American Idol' (8PM, Fox) 8th season finale
Who's it going to be: Adam Lambert, with his powerful vocals and theatrical performances? Or Kris Allen, the low-key singer who provided the biggest shock of the season when he edged out Danny Gokey with his stripped down performance of Kanye West's 'Heartless'? American IdolTonight, one of the fellas will become the eighth American Idol, after millions of viewers' votes have been tallied. Also in tonight's live finale: a reunion of the season's top 13, who'll be heading out on the annual 'Idol' summer tour in July, plus, after a season that's sparked ongoing debate about the effectiveness of having four judges, perhaps the final appearance by newest judge Kara DioGuardi?

'The New Adventures of Old Christine' – 4th season finale (8PM, CBS)
'Gary Unmarried' – 1st season finale (8:30PM, CBS)
'Criminal Minds' – 4th season finale (9PM, CBS)
'Reno 911!' – Weigel gets trapped in a crook's car (10:30PM, Comedy Central)


THURSDAY, MAY 21
Southland'Southland' (10PM, NBC) 1st season finale
The cop drama's been given a second-season greenlight, so it's worth it to get further invested as the season wraps with the murder of a gang member. Cooper, Brown, Dewey and Sherman ('O.C.' star Benjamin McKenzie, who's won us over again with his latest TV role) find the body of a Marta's Avenue gang member in the trunk of a car outside Dodger Stadium, which is going to keep them wrapped up with an investigation, while Salinger continues to fret over his increasingly strained relationship with his daughter. And with Bryant (Shawn Hatosy) worried about his ability to keep teen witness Janilla safe, he convinces Lydia (the already Emmy-worthy Regina King) to let her crash at her house.

'Ugly Betty' – 3rd season finale (8PM, ABC)
'So You Think You Can Dance' – 5th season premiere (8PM, Fox)
'Fashion Show' – The challenge: One coat for all seasons (10PM, Bravo)

FRIDAY, MAY 22
'Head Case' (10PM, Starz) 3rd season finale
Dr. Goode saved the best for last, as she heads back to New York City to save Myron from his bungling kidnappers and ends up with a new client: Jerry Seinfeld. Head CaseWithout an office to operate from, Elizabeth borrows space from a dentist, where Jerry tells her the reason he needs to see her is to find out why his wife, also Dr. Goode's patient, is seeing her. After all, Jerry reasons, his wife his married to him ... so what does she possibly have to be unhappy about? Meanwhile, Elizabeth gets a multi-million dollar book deal offer, and all she'll have to do to close the deal: Expose her celeb clients' biggest secrets.

'Don't Forget the Lyrics' – Meat Loaf in the house! (8PM, Fox)
'Real Time With Bill Maher' – Bill blabs about politics (10PM, HBO)
'DogTown' – Helping doggies from a WV puppy mill (10PM, NGC)

WEEKEND, MAY 23-24
'The Tudors' (Sun., 9PM, Showtime) 3rd season finale
Oh, Henry. As the King tires of another wife – Anne of Cleves – he begins the annulment process, but not before taking on another mistress, Katherine Howard. Henry's passion, and hopes for another heir, are renewed, though we all know how the Catherine affair turns out ... and it'll unfold in the show's fourth, and final, season. The TudorsMeanwhile, Princess Mary falls in love, though, thanks to her papa, her happiness is short-lived, and when Brandon decides to wield his new power, it spells doom for Thomas Cromwell, who's imprisoned in the Tower of London.

'Breaking Bad' – Jesse's habit spirals out of control (Sun., 10PM, AMC)
'Diamonds' – Diamonds are not Judy Davis' best friend (Sun., 9PM, ABC)
'Daisy of Love' – The dudes try to boost Daisy's music career (Sun., 9PM, VH1)
