New NBC Drama 'Kings'

KingsWhat It's About: In this modern-day retelling of a famous Biblical story, a young soldier named David Shepherd (Christopher Egan) saves the king's son by taking on the seemingly indestructible Goliath tank. When the grateful King Silas (Ian McShane) promotes him, David finds himself navigating the churning political waters of the court and capital city.

Who's In It: Ian McShane, Chris Egan, Susanna Thompson, Sebastian Stan, Allison Miller, Dylan Baker

Where You've Seen Them:
McShane riveted viewers on HBO's acclaimed
'Deadwood,' winning a Golden Globe and earning an Emmy nomination for his portrayal of the foul-mouthed, cutthroat brothel owner Al Swearengen. And you may recognize Thompson as the ex-wife on 'Once and Again.'

Our Take: In a television landscape teeming with procedurals, a complex, layered, well-acted family drama is a sight for sore eyes. 'Kings' is certainly one of the more ambitious new shows this season, but the familiarity of the David story makes it easier to dive into this modern but fictitious world. A stellar cast elevates the sometimes-stilted dialogue (are the writers purposely trying to be 'Deadwood'-esque, for McShane's sake?), and after seeing the first two episodes, we're definitely going to tune in to see how this high-stakes soap plays out.

How You Can See It: 'Kings' premieres Sun., March 15, 8PM ET on NBC
