What to Watch Tuesday, Jan. 13

'American Idol'
(8PM, Fox) 8th season premiere
'Idol's' eighth season kicks off with some major changes, namely a fourth judge (singer and songwriter Kara DioGuardi) joining Simon, Paula and Randy and less focus on the more outrageous (read: delusional) contestants as viewers get a deeper look at who the major contenders are early on.

There will also be 36 semifinalists instead of 24, and the return of the Wild Card round, where judges pick three rejects to rejoin the competition.

Best of all, the results shows will now be whittled down from a bloated hour to a still-bloated, but bearable, 30 minutes, because a little Simon/Seacrest gay innuendo banter goes a long way.

'90210'
(8PM, The CW)
Donna Martin will return! Donna Martin will return!

'Scrubs'
(9 and 9:30PM, ABC)
The only thing that ever brings Drs. Cox and Kelso together is a common enemy, and tonight the fellas bond as they try to come up with a plan to rid Sacred Heart of Dr. Maddox (Courteney Cox).

'Bad Girls Club'
(10PM, Oxygen)
Kayla and Amber M. get physical – no, not that way, pervs – and the fallout of their fight may mean that one of them is leaving the 'Bad Girls' bachelorette pad.

'Real Housewives of Orange County'

(10PM, Bravo)
Most of the time, we feel sorry for Gretchen, between the health sitch with her fiancée and the fact that the other 'Housewives' like to use her as a verbal punching bag, but then she goes and does something like getting wasted at Tamra's dinner party and flirting with Ryan.

'NCIS'
(8PM, CBS)
It's a Ducky-intensive episode, as the ME is stabbed while at a crime scene, leading his co-workers to find out some interesting info about his past.

Also on Tuesday:
- 'The Biggest Loser' (8PM, NBC)
- 'The Mentalist' (9PM, CBS)
- 'Law & Order: Special Victims Unit' (10PM, NBC)

What's on Wednesday: 'Make 'Em Laugh,' 'Damages' and more.
